Wish child bakes with Buddy Valastro, TLC's "Cake Boss"

Buddy Valastro may be the "Cake Boss," but he happily became the apprentice when wish child Katherine visited his New Jersey shop and baked up a masterpiece!

 

Katherine, 16, loves to cook with her dad and spend time with friends, but her courageous battle with lymphoma keeps her from her favorite activities. Buddy’s fun personality, incredible baking talents and kindness toward others inspired Katherine’s culinary wish experience.

 

Katherine's day at the famous Carlo's City Hall Bake Shop in Hoboken was a delicious dream come true! She toured the entire bakery from the kitchen to Buddy’s office and she met the bakery’s staff, many of whom are Buddy’s family members and appear on “Cake Boss.”

 

When the baking began, Katherine learned how to make butter cream icing roses. Then, she and Buddy created a fantastic blue fondant cake with tropical fish decorations. The inspiration for the cake’s design was the pattern of Katherine’s favorite pillow, which she keeps close during treatments for comfort.   

 

At the end of the day, Katherine and her dad returned home with a new friend, unbelievable memories and lots of goodies, including crumb cake - Katherine’s favorite! Katherine’s day baking with Buddy renewed her spirit and brought a bright smile to her face.
