Referring a Child for a Wish

Our ultimate goal is to identify and serve every eligible child in Massachusetts and Rhode Island.   We partner closely with our local medical community and educate the public about our mission, in order to identify as many eligible children as possible.

Who is eligible for a wish?

To be deemed eligible for a wish from Make-A-Wish Massachusetts and Rhode Island, a child must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Be between the ages of 2 1/2 and 18 years
(child must be referred to the Foundation prior to his/her 18th birthday)
  • Reside in Massachusetts or Rhode Island
  • Never has had a wish fulfilled by the Foundation or another wish-granting organization
  • Meet the Foundation's medical eligibility criteria
(medical eligibility can only be determined by the child's treating physician)

Who can refer a child for a wish?

The Foundation accepts referrals from one of three sources:

  • Medical professionals treating the potential wish child
(such as a doctor, nurse, social worker, or child-life specialist)
  • Parent or legal guardian of the potential wish child
  • The potential wish child himself/herself
